When asked last Friday whether Corby should be allowed to sell her story to the media, Foreign Minister Julie Bishop said the government believed in the principle that people should not profit from crime.

“But whether or not these circumstances arise, whether or not action is taken, will be a matter for Australian Federal Police and the Director of Public Prosecutions,’’ she told reporters in Adelaide.

“These are matters independent of government.’’

But Prime Minister Tony Abbott made a stronger stance, telling Fairfax Radio last Thursday that “crime should not pay”.
